Secret Attic Space

Tim and I randomly found this abandoned apartment in our building. There's a tiny little crawl space door at the top of the stairs in our building. One day I thought, "I wonder what's up there...probably some kind of storage closet." So I opened it up and boy was I surprised to see a beautiful old apartment up there! I got Tim and my camera and we snapped some pictures as we quietly crept around this space that we probably weren't supposed to be in ;) It felt like a moment out of Narnia or The Secret Garden or something....so much fun!

What a beautiful summer day!! Tim and I have been discovering some new places around Philly, and it's been so much fun. Today we're going to a massive vintage warehouse with some friends from work. Hopefully we'll score some sweet new items there! It's one of those places that has massive piles of clothing that you have to dig through. I feel like that kind of environment just adds to the fun of finding treasures. Everything isn't beautifully curated; you have to dig to find the good stuff! I'm excited to check out a new place for thrifting. We've discovered a couple around the city...I'll be doing a post soon with my favorite spots! Hope you're all having a nice weekend. New Seasons

Life has been moving along at a speedy rate these days. Tim and I have finalized an apartment in Philadelphia for the summer! It's a beautiful 1 bedroom with hardwood floors and lots of sunlight on a lovely tree-lined street (Gosh, I sound like a Craigslist ad!) We're both getting really excited for the summer, but also getting a little nostalgic and sappy about leaving our current apartment. We've lived here ever since we first got married 4 years ago. It's become such a special little first home that we'll never forget. We knew we wouldn't live here forever, so we will embrace this change and new season.

And since we're moving to Philly and really have no idea where the cool spots are, let me know of your favorite coffee shops, restaurants, clothing shops, etc! That would be amazing ;)

Always On The Run

The past few days have given us a taste of spring. The green grass is beginning to make its appearance, the days are getting longer and warmer, the sun is shining bright throughout the day, and soon flowers will start to bloom all around us. I can finally wearing dresses with tights and not worry about the snow freezing my feet. It's quite a nice change from jeans, snow boots, and oversized sweaters (which I also love, just not for 4 months straight!). Tim and I are continuing to make plans for our summer in Philadelphia. If any of you are local to the area, any advice on good neighborhoods or resources for places to stay would be welcome ;) I know we'll find the perfect little summer home, but for now we are scouring the internet to find a nice place. But I'm not complaining - I love this stage of excitement…of looking forward to things and organizing trips and researching new places to see. It's all so familiar to us by now, with us having to split our time between the States and New Zealand. We are used to packing up our home and living somewhere new for months at a time. It's part of the beautiful life we get to live together. I think it will always be this way for us; a life of adventure and seeing the world as new and beautiful and exciting, together. 

Apple Orchard Birthday!

Yesterday was my birthday. Tim and I decided to spend the day doing things we've been meaning to do together, but have been too busy to do lately. We had chocolate chip waffles for breakfast, went to see a movie (Gravity...which was intense and so good), had dinner at a local restaurant, and went to our local apple orchard to walk around the orchard and eat our favorite fall treat - pumpkin donuts!

It was so perfect. Tim and I had talked about going into Chicago to shop and eat out for my birthday...but I realized that I wanted to spend a relaxing day with Tim, not worrying about parking or traffic or anything like that. Maybe it's a sign of getting older that I just want to relax and spend quality time with my husband. And you know what? I'm ok with that. I'm ok with turning into a boring old married couple ;)

Oh, and Happy Halloween! I hope you're all dressing up and having a grand ol' time tonight. 

On Cloud Nine

I finally got the chance to sit down and devote my time to making a new dress. Since being in New Zealand for a few months, I wasn't able to sew or have all my supplies at my fingertips. Now that I'm back home I have my sewing station set up again. It's a pretty great feeling to listen to music and just sew the afternoon away. I love the way this dress turned out! The collar is my favorite thing ever. And I love walking around in a dress that I've made. It's a pretty fantastic feeling, just prancing around in a one-of-a-kind number.

Our Sweet Home

After our recent trip to Ikea, Tim and I have been finding places for our new little things.

We've been in our apartment for nearly three years now so it's nice to change things up a bit 

and bring new decorative pieces in.
My favorite new addition is this black and white print that we hung above our couch.
I shot this photo while we were in New Zealand this past November.
It was on the drive down to Milford Sound, which quickly became our favorite place in the world.
I will never forget the feeling when we saw this view for the first time.
We were both speechless at the sight.
It was like driving into Neverland or Jurassic Park or something.
It was such a special moment, so it makes this print so meaningful for us.

We're also super excited about this back patio set.
We haven't had a proper table & chair set out here since we moved in.
 Unless you count the broken rocking chair I rescued from someone's trash...
But anyway, we had our first meal out there the other night and it was magical!
I can't wait for countless summer meals sitting and chatting under the big oak tree next to our deck.

I love all these special things that add joy to our daily lives.
And guess what? Tomorrow is our 3 year anniversary!
We'll probably head into Chicago for some food and shopping, then watch our wedding video for the 1,000 time ;)
