Film Friday #2

Time for Film Friday #2!
Kylie and I shot some 35mm film the other evening during "magic hour".
For those of you not familiar with it, magic hour is pretty much prime time for photos.
It's right around sunset and the lighting is just perfect for photos.

I love the way these images turned out.
It was so fun to run around, exploring, and taking photos with my best friend.
It really felt like we were 16 again.
This is pretty much all we did when we were younger.
We'd drive around town, trying to find new hidden places for photos.
I think we'll try to do more of that this summer.

Oh, and I'm starting yet another new feature that I'm excited to share with you all!
I'll be working on it this weekend, so hopefully I'll have something to show for it on Monday.

Film Friday

I'm starting a new feature on the blog called Film Friday!
I'm attempting to post more film photography of mine.
It's something that I've always really enjoyed (and even went to school for!), but I rarely make time to experiment these days.
So in an attempt to bring more film into my life, I've started this feature!

I have tons of old cameras, some found at antique stores, others passed down to me from my Grandpa who was a photographer.
So I really have no excuse not to use these amazing cameras of mine!
 For this first roll, I used a cheap little plastic camera of mine.
It's a little Bell & Howell that is "focus-free" and quite unpredictable.
 But that's a quality that I kind of love in cameras.
I took these photos in Chicago on our 2nd Anniversary a few days ago. We drove downtown, then headed up north into the woods.

 Hopefully I'll have more where these came from ;)

Life In Film

A few days ago, Kylie and I took some of our favorite film cameras around town.
It had been a while since we'd done a photo adventure.
It's something we used to do all the time.
But, as it goes, life gets busy and we haven't found much time to do it lately.
We spent an afternoon together, shooting around, laughing, being silly as sisters do ;)
And it just so happens that I snapped a few photos on the LAST day that Ky was pregnant!

Tim and I just took a magical evening bike ride.

Film Photography

i took a couple rolls of film recently.
it's one of my favorite things to do.
i love how i kind of forget what photos i've taken until see the film developed.

my film photography collection

i was recently inspired by a post from Steffys Pros and Cons to share some of my lomography collection.
over the years, my sister and i have become quite engulfed in collecting vintage cameras.

this is our most recent collection:


as you can tell, we love experimenting with film.
there's something so magical about it that digital photos can't touch.
i know there are lots of apps and photoshop effects that mimick the vintage look,
but nothing can compare to real film photographs.

i love them so much!
and it's so fun to not know what the photos will look like until they're developed.

like the last photo was a self-portrait i look about 4 years ago.
i initially wanted to get totally different shot.
i framed the shot (i thought i at least included my entire jacket!), snapped the photo,
and watched as a suuuuper close up of my face started to emerge.
initally, i was kind of annoyed that i had to try it again.
but as the photo developed more, i realized how wonderful it looked!
and it's now my all-time favorite self portrait.

so, there you have it.
there are some things that can only be done with film.

ps. our wedding was featured on "Wedding Chicks"!!! Eeeeek! I'm so excited about this. Even though it's almost a year after our wedding, I finally thought to submitted our wedding to a blog - and we made the cut!! Hip hip hooray!
